PLUS - have yourself a day

Well gents, Father’s Day is Sunday.
I’m 6.5 years into this whole dad thing, and it’s hands down the most rewarding, humbling, and honest work I’ve ever done. Funny how kids make you look in the mirror and grow.
What an honor it is to be able to call ourselves Dad. Whether you’re just getting started or decades in, thanks for being here.
This newsletter started as a hunch and a Google Doc. Nearly a year later, it’s become something I’m proud of and fired up to keep building. Appreciate you for reading. It means more than you know.
Happy Father’s Day. Have a good one.
PS: If you’re in the Charleston area, a few of us will be hanging out on 13th St E at Folly Beach starting around 8am(ish). Some surfing (if there’s a wave), coffee, beer, bocce, whatever. Come hang.

FROM THE TRENCHES
This one hit heavy.
A dad in the Slack shared that his 16-year-old pup, who’s been with him through it all, got bad news from the vet. The end is near. And now, he’s trying to figure out how to help his 4-year-old navigate the loss.
The responses were honest and heartfelt:
“We kept it simple: she was sick and died. He still brings her up, but he seems okay with it.”
“We used the book The Rainbow Bridge to help explain it to our kids—it helped a ton.”
“Honesty is key. Not just because it’s right, but because it builds trust in who you are as a dad.”
We watched All Dogs Go to Heaven. That hit in all the right ways.”
If you’ve ever had to walk through this with your kids, you know there’s no perfect script. But being present, honest, and open? That goes a long way.
(Also, shoutout to the dad who joked he couldn’t use the Rainbow Bridge book because… his dog’s name is Buster. 💔🐾)
