Wisdom of the Week: Most of us don’t mean to let the important stuff slip. We’re just distracted by the stuff that feels urgent but doesn’t really matter. One day, we’ll look back and realize the small stuff was just noise. The big stuff was right there the whole time. Try not to miss it.

FROM THE TRENCHES
Topic: Sick Season Survival
Daycare sickness is undefeated.
One dad shared that he and his wife have been stuck in a four-week cycle of colds, coughs, and just feeling worn down. Routines fell apart. Workouts stalled. Mood dipped. The kind of stretch where you’re not even mad anymore, just tired of being tired.
What followed was a classic dad pile-on of “same here” and notes from the field.
A few things that kept coming up:
Zinc, elderberry, vitamin C, and vitamin D were common staples
Probiotics came up a lot, especially gut health tied to immunity
Raw garlic, honey, ginger, smoothies, cod liver oil — the old-school stuff dads swear by
Nasal sprays and cold/flu remedies to manage symptoms, not miracles
IV therapy helped some feel human again, even if temporarily
On the movement side, the consensus was simple: don’t go to zero. Walking counts. A warm-up counts. One set counts. Bodyweight counts. Staying in motion helps keep the rust off for when you’re back to full strength.
And maybe the biggest reminder: this stretch is normal.
Kids bring everything home. Families pass it around. It can take weeks. Exposure now often means fewer sick days later. Not fun, but part of the deal.
