Happy hump day, fellas. We’re fired up over here. Our Built for More event kicks off tomorrow in Charleston, and we’re ready to roll. If you missed this one, we’ll be running it back in a new spot this fall.

Also got another Dad Lab on the calendar. It’s a free one and worth your time. Details below.

Let’s get into it.

📕 DAD WISDOM

The Next Right Road

I just learned something about that famous “two roads diverged in a wood” line.

Turns out, we’ve kind of made up the meaning. It’s usually framed as this big moment about choosing the bold, less-traveled path.

But the original idea was simpler. The roads were pretty much the same. The meaning comes later, when we look back and tell ourselves a story about the choice we made.

It’s easy to replay old decisions. Think about what you should’ve done differently. Wonder how things might’ve turned out on another path.

But all of those roads led here…

To your kids. To your family. To this version of life.

And once you’re here, overthinking the past doesn’t really help. There’s always another decision in front of you anyway.

Not a perfect one. Not a defining one. Just the next one. The next right road.

SMALL TALK

A couple random facts you probably don’t need to know… but might come in handy the next time you're standing around at a kid’s birthday party making awkward conversation with another dad you barely know.

  • Kids start forming long-term memories around age 3–4. Which means some of the random stuff you’re doing right now…might actually stick.

  • The average parent spends about 37 minutes a day in “quality time” with their kids. Not a ton. But it adds up over years.

  • Families with two kids go through roughly 400–500 pounds of laundry a year. Which explains why there’s always a pile somewhere.

Cell Phone Before Bed?

Giphy

You’ve heard it a hundred times. Phones before bed wreck your sleep. Not so fast.

In a controlled study, phone use did suppress melatonin. But give it about 50 minutes after you put the phone down, and levels started to rebound, especially in younger people.

The real lever is timing. Participants who stopped using their phones about an hour before bed didn’t see major hits to sleep quality or memory.

Context matters too. This was 90 minutes of reading, not late-night doomscrolling or group chats lighting up your brain.

And age is undefeated. The older you get, the less forgiving your system is.

Shoutout to Arnold's Pump Club for surfacing the study.

COMMUNITY

We’re back with another Dad Lab.

Dad Lab is our series where we bring in sharp dads and operators to share what’s actually working. From fitness and mindset to business and parenting, it’s all about helping you show up better at home and everywhere else.

Join us Thursday, May 7th at 12pm EST as we’re joined by Brian Genuser.

Brian Genuser has spent 20 years working with brands like Vans, Adidas, and Oakley, helping teams and creatives actually execute at a high level. Not theory. Real reps.

In this session, he’s breaking down how to find your rhythm when things feel chaotic. How to get into flow. How to build momentum without burning out.

Brian will share tactical takeaways for about 20 minutes, then we’ll open it up for Q&A so you can dig into whatever’s top of mind.

You’ll walk away with practical takeaways you can use right away. Simple systems, a few mindset shifts, and a better way to approach the day to day as a dad who’s trying to show up at home and still chase something bigger.

Snag your spot here (it’s free btw).
