Scroll less, squat better

Plus - a solid before and after

Hope you enjoyed the long weekend. I had a hard time shifting out of low gear yesterday.

Here’s what we’ve got on deck today:

  • The silence that hits different

  • Why you should stop scrolling on the throne

  • And a surprisingly satisfying way to deep clean

Let’s get into it.

📕 DAD WISDOM

Silence Hits Different

I’ve been flying solo the past few days; my wife took the kids to visit the in-laws.

At first, it sounded like a dream: quiet house, no whining/bickering, and a chance to finally finish a few house projects.

But by day two? I missed the noise. Missed the chaos. Missed them.

It’s wild how quickly we get used to the rhythm of family life; the interruptions, the tiny feet running through the house, the messes that somehow feel like home.

I was chatting with a dad during our Charleston run club meetup yesterday, and the word “purpose” came up.

That’s it. That’s the word.

As hard as some days are, I wouldn’t trade this stage of life for anything. There’s something powerful about being needed, about showing up every day, for the people who call you Dad.

What a cool thing we get to do.

RAD DAD

Dean Karnazes

Dean Karnazes is well-known as the ‘Ultra Marathon Man.’

With two grown children now in their late 20s, Dean reflects on fatherhood with the same grit and grace he brings to 100-mile runs.

When asked about the most rewarding part of being a dad, he didn’t hesitate:

“I’ve enjoyed my kids immensely—but so have others. They’re good humans.”

His philosophy? Lead by example. Whether it’s fitness, values, or how to handle adversity, Dean believes kids watch what you do far more than what you say.

And his non-negotiable for dad life is a reminder to take care of your own engine:

“A parent must maintain their own life. Yes, the kids come first—but you can’t pour from an empty cup.”

From late-night diaper duty (he recommends a Diaper Genie, by the way) to navigating the stress of money during early parenting years, Dean’s journey is full of wisdom earned the hard way. And he wouldn’t trade it for anything.

His solo time these days? Running, reading Homer, and sipping ouzo—split between California and Greece.

A legend on the trail and a grounded, thoughtful dad off it. That’s a rad dad.

DAD TOYS

Handheld Steam Cleaner

Boring toy? 100%. Necessary? Also 100%.

Picked up this handheld steam cleaner and used it on the window sills last week. It was a total game-changer. It just blasted the grime right away.

16 attachments. Big tank. No chemicals.

Highly recommend for the dad who secretly loves a good before-and-after.

DAD BOD

Toilet Stuff

Turns out, scrolling on the throne might be wrecking more than your screen time stats. A new study found that using your phone on the toilet is linked to a 46% higher risk of hemorrhoids.

Doesn’t matter your age, diet, or how often you work out. If you’re sitting too long, you’re putting pressure where you don’t want it.

Docs say: aim for under 3–5 minutes per bathroom visit. So maybe skip the email replies and doomscrolling, and get in, get out, and get on with your day.
