📕 DAD WISDOM
Right Now
I read something about focusing on what matters right now instead of some big, head-in-the-clouds version of your life’s purpose.
As dads, that feels pretty accurate.
Last night my 7-year-old had an earache. Ended up sleeping in bed with him because he was all out of sorts.
No plan. No productivity. No bigger agenda.
Just… being there.
That’s the thing with parenting. It changes on the fly. Constant updates. What mattered yesterday might not matter today.
And most of the time, it’s not more complicated than that.

SMALL TALK
A couple random facts you probably don’t need to know… but might come in handy the next time you're standing around at a kid’s birthday party making awkward conversation with another dad you barely know.

Kids who eat dinner with their family regularly are more likely to have better academic performance and mental health outcomes. Even if dinner is chaotic, it still counts.
The average child spends about 7 hours per day on screens (outside of school). So if it feels like a lot… it is.
Babies recognize their dad’s voice within the first few months of life. Even if it doesn’t always seem like it at 3am.

DAD GEAR
Cast Iron Skillet
Every dad needs a cast iron skillet. Full stop.
The Lodge Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet 12 Inch is the one you buy once and use forever.
Over 163,000 reviews, still holding a 4.6 rating, which basically never happens. It’s PFAS-free, works on anything (stove, oven, grill, campfire), and somehow costs $28.
This is one of those “why don’t I own this already?” buys.

DAD BOD
Handling Travel

You don’t lose your fitness on trips. You lose your standards.
Here’s how dads who stay dialed handle travel:
Sleep before you go: 2–3 solid nights lowers stress + keeps your immune system from tanking
Hydrate early: Start before the flight, not on it (jet lag hits harder when you’re dry)
Pack real snacks: Protein + fiber = stable energy, fewer bad airport decisions
Pre-book movement: Even a 20-min hotel workout works if it’s scheduled
Set a “floor,” not a goal: 8–10k steps, protein at every meal, water first—non-negotiables beat motivation
Travel happens. Sloppiness is optional.
