Topic: Coaching T-Ball

A dad asked about coaching t-ball for the first time. Ten kids. Three coaches. Ages 3 to 5. Pure chaos. Highly entertaining. Any tips to keep them engaged and maybe teach them something?

The responses were refreshingly simple.

  • At 4, it’s about fun. You’re not building mechanics. You’re building love for the game.

  • Keep it engaging and short. Attention spans are measured in minutes, not innings.

  • Focus on one thing at a time. This week we throw to first. This week we just try to hit the ball. Simplify.

  • Help the kids who struggle most. One dad shared that when you coach up the bottom three, the whole team has more fun. Confidence spreads.

  • Lower the bar. The win is them wanting to come back next week.
