Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Today is a National Day of Service, a nudge to get out, help where you can, and make your community a little better than you found it.

And to our Buffalo Bills fans… hearts go out to you. Looked like a catch to us.

Anywho, let’s get into it.

📕 DAD WISDOM

Put ‘Em First

I watched ‘Being Eddie’ over the weekend on Netflix. Solid doc if you haven’t seen it yet.

At one point, Eddie (Murphy) talks about fatherhood and says something along the lines of this: putting your kids first is the best thing you can do to be a good dad.

It sounds simple. Almost too simple.

But the more you sit with it, the more you realize how often “putting them first” has nothing to do with big gestures. It’s not about sacrificing everything or getting it perfect.

It’s answering when they call your name. It’s being present when you’re tired. It’s choosing patience when it would be easier not to.

Putting your kids first isn’t about losing yourself. It’s about showing them what matters by how you show up.

RAD DAD

Billy Parks

Billy Parks is an investment professional based in LA and a dad to two teenage boys. Right now, the hardest part of parenting isn’t schedules or sports. It’s managing tech without losing his mind or raising screenagers.

The most rewarding moments come when he sees real autonomy. His boys running their own program, handling their business, and not needing him to hover.

Billy wishes he’d known earlier how important it is to have a crew of like-minded dads. The roadmap matters, but the people walking it with you matter just as much.

His guiding principle is simple. Progress, not perfection. Keep moving in the right direction and give yourself grace when you get it wrong.

DAD GEAR

Legit Haul Gear

If you’d told me pre-kids I’d care about haul gear, I would’ve brushed you off. A few months into the RUX system, I’m mad I didn’t buy it sooner.

This three-piece setup (70L bin, 25L bag, 3L pocket) turns trunk chaos into something resembling order.

  • More organized: wet stays wet, clean stays clean

  • More customizable: clip bags in or out depending on the day

  • More versatile: run one piece or all three…practice, trips, life

Not flashy. Just stupidly useful.

DAD BOD

Pick a Default Meal

Eating better doesn’t fail because you’re lazy. It fails because you’re tired and making decisions all day.

Forget meal prep fantasies. What you need is one default meal you can make without thinking.

Less thinking = more consistency.

Pick one meal you can make in under 20 minutes. Keep the ingredients stocked. Eat it on repeat when life gets hectic.

Easy defaults:

  • Rotisserie chicken + microwave rice + frozen veggies

  • Eggs + toast + fruit

  • Greek yogurt + berries + nuts

  • Protein shake + banana + peanut butter

Boring works. Consistency wins.

COMMUNITY

  • Building This Together: Dad Day is picking up steam, and we’re starting to spin up events in more cities. If you’ve ever helped run groups, organize events, or thought “I could help with this,” we’re looking for a few dads to jump in, reply if you’re interested.

  • Dad Day Run Club: Last week’s Runner of the Week was Keith Bush (72 miles 👀). And a shoutout to Trevor Durham for knocking out his first half-marathon. Keith and Trevor, reply with your address, and we’ll get your fresh Dad Day Run Club hats shipped out.
