Before we get into it, today is 9/11. Hard to believe it’s been 25 years. Thinking about everyone who lost someone that day, and especially the first responders and families who still carry it with them.
Plenty of sports on the docket this weekend. Get outside, watch some football, have some fun with the kids.
See ya Monday.
If you’re new here, we mix it up on Fridays with a quick recap from the week and a few extra gems to head into the weekend right.

IN THE TRENCHES
No poll this week so sharing something that came up in Slack.
Topic: What Do You Do With Time to Yourself?
A dad dropped something that opened up a pretty great conversation.
Loves his work. Loves being home with his family. But when he finally gets a little time to himself, he finds himself zoning out, unsure what he even wants to do with it.
Turns out, a lot of dads knew exactly what he meant.
Golf takes five hours. Fishing takes half a day. Old hobbies don't always fit anymore. And when an hour finally opens up, you can spend half of it deciding what to do, then feel guilty for "wasting" the other half.
Here are a few gems from the thread…
Lower the bar for what counts. A walk. A movie alone. Yard work. Trail running. Pickleball. Coffee somewhere. It doesn't need to be an epic use of your free time to be good for you.
Put something recurring on the calendar. One dad started a neighborhood group chat called "Dude Hang." Another has Dad Beers every second Thursday. Someone else does movie night every second Tuesday. Making it recurring removes the whole we should hang sometime problem.
Your hobbies are allowed to change. The stuff you loved before kids might not fit your life anymore. Apparently yard work can become a hobby. Who knew.
And maybe the best point of the whole thread:
Getting an hour to yourself doesn't mean you have to squeeze every ounce of enjoyment out of it. Sometimes doing absolutely nothing for a while is exactly what you needed.

ONE LAST THING

🍻 Weekend Assignment: Try the good version of something you usually cheap out on. Coffee. Bread. Steak. Socks. [insert something].
🧠 Worth Knowing: The little ridges on the edges of quarters and dimes are called reeding. They were originally added to make it obvious if someone shaved precious metal off the edge of a coin.

dad shower thoughts: There’s no better feeling than throwing something away that you’ve been moving around the garage for five years.
