📕 DAD WISDOM

How Do You Know?

Got served an interview with Adrian Grenier (Vince from Entourage) the other day.

The guy has a pretty wild story. Raised by his mom in NYC, grew up without his dad around, became an actor even though he never really wanted that life, Entourage happened, and his reality became blurry.

After Entourage, he stepped away from Hollywood for a while to hit the reset button.

Now he’s a dad to two.

In the interview he said pretty matter-of-factly, “I’m a great dad.”

The interviewer pushed him on it. Having grown up without a father himself, how does he know?

His answer was basically: because I’m present. I’m here.

We can make being a good dad pretty dang complicated sometimes. Adrian seemed to have a much simpler way of looking at it.

Be there.

RAD DAD

Kyle Cokinos

Kyle Cokinos is the kind of guy who willingly signs up for hard things.

He owns an Insurance Agency in Houston, has completed multiple 100-milers and Ironmans, and holds a Guinness World Record for most golf holes played on foot in 24 hours. He’s also a dad to three girls, with a fourth kid on the way in March.

So yeah, endurance is kind of his thing.

But what stood out from Kyle wasn’t the fitness resume. It was how simply he described fatherhood: learning that none of this is really about you.

That feels like the whole job sometimes. Getting yourself out of the center. Showing up for your wife. Staying steady for your kids. Providing for your family without disappearing from them.

Kyle starts most mornings around 4 with journaling, and a workout before the house wakes up. His favorite part of the day? Getting home to spend time with his girls before dinner, bath, and bedtime.

His non-negotiable is setting the tone early and staying fit enough to keep up. Or as he puts it, remaining the fittest guy his girls know.

DAD GEAR

Classic 6’ Moc Toe Boot

If you’re gonna invest in a pair of boots, make it a pair you can wear for years. Red Wing’s Classic Moc has been around since 1952, is built with full-grain leather, and can be resoled when the time comes. They’re tough, comfortable, and one of those rare things that actually looks better the more beat up it gets.

Rest Rule

The Big Lebowski Reaction GIF

Saw this in Arnold’s Pump Club: if you’re trying to build muscle, resting at least 90 seconds is the number to remember.

Research has found that longer rest periods can help you maintain more reps and training volume, which matters for muscle growth. Short rests might make the workout feel harder, but they can also tank the quality of your next set.

For muscle, think 90 seconds. For pure strength, even longer can make sense.
